It is a great honor for me to inform you that I have joined the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Niigata University Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences as Professor and Chairman. Our department has a more than 105 years history and I am the 8th chairman. I succeeded Prof. Sugata Takahashi, who organized the 30th Politzer Society Meeting. The 6th chairman is Prof. Nakano, who made a great progress in cholesteatoma surgery. The 5th chairman is Prof. Ino, who had an important contribution to tonsil immune system as well as otoneurology. The 4th chairman is Prof. Morimoto, who introduced an ENG (electro nystagmography) to Japan for the first time. As these professors, my specialty is otology and neurotology, however, our department has also a strong background for the wide range of otolaryngology, head and neck surgery. I consider that my most important commitment is an education of the next generation, improvement of patients' lives, and contribution to the progress in science of otolaryngology. My philosophy is "man for others".
