Professor and ChairmanToshifumi Wakai, MD, PhD
Inaugural address
Toshifumi Wakai, MD, PhD, has been appointed to the Professor and Chairman of the Division of Digestive and General Surgery, Niigata University Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences on December 16, 2012. I am a surgeon with special experience in hepatobiliary disease, particularly in patients with liver, bile duct, gallbladder or pancreatic cancers. I also have a lot of experience treating patients with colorectal liver metastases.
We all work closely as a team and meet frequently to determine the most appropriate treatment for each patient, review research, and organize the team to achieve the best possible care for patients. We will foster “medical doctors who can heal and care” through their advanced clinical skills, commonsense and genuine humanity. We contribute to the development of medical science, education, and research, specializing in specified fields.

We have several graduate programs of the Division of Digestive and General Surgery, Niigata University Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences. I am really interested in postdoctoral education and translational research regarding surgical oncology. I wonder if you have any plans for a second postdoctal fellowship.
